Voters in Ijok kept both sides stretching until the last minute. Earlier at 10am voter turn-out was a mere 14%, causing leaders from both camps to sound out an urgent call to party workers to double their efforts in persuading voters to go to the polling station.
The situation was still unsatisfactory at 2pm, with voters turn-out at the nine polling stations averaging 50.8%.
The nine polling stations were at Sungai Darah, Pekan Berjuntai Bestari (S), Kampung Jaya Setia, Bukit Badong, Kampung Ijok, Pekan Ijok, Simpang Ijok, Tuan Mee and Pekan Berjuntai Bestari (U).
However, the situation dramatically turned for the better towards the end of the polling day.
By 4pm, voters turn-out surged 77.3% and by closing time at 5pm, Ijok folks made history by achieving the highest turn-out for a by-election.
