GOLDEN ESTHER: (Dec 4) Esther Cheah won Malaysia’s first gold medal at the Doha AsianGames in the women’s singles bowling event. She chalked up a record-breaking 1,444pinfalls to finish ahead of Indonesian Putty Armein. Esther then helped the Malaysianwomen’s team to the gold medal. 

DOHA TRAGEDY: (Dec 8) South Korean equestrian rider Kim Hyung-chil, 47, died after hishorse threw him and then crushed him underfoot. It was the first death of an athlete incompetition in the Games’ 55-year history. Kim, who was competing in his fourth AsianGames, had also competed in two Olympics.
