Fenomena beats seven others in band contest

SHAH ALAM: Fenomena won big in the Rentak Juara (Rhythm of Champions) 2006 competition here on Saturday night, grabbing the awards for top group, most-popular group and best vocalist. 

The Selangor band received a cash prize of RM50,000, a trophy and a certificate for the main title.

It was voted the most-popular group by fans through SMS, for which it received RM5,000 more. 

Its vocalist Kamal won the best vocalist title, which earned him RM5,000. 

Fenomena presented three numbers, Bunyi Gitar, Rock and Roll Pie and Jemu, in the two-hour finals, which was aired live by RTM 2. 

Eight groups made it to the finals after competing with 30 other bands over 11 weeks. 

Second place went to Matta, while Love Machine was third. 

The other finalists were D’Frontier, TLG, Starduzz, Musang Berjanggut and Scarface. 

Information Minister Datuk Zainuddin Maidin gave away the prizes. 

The competition this year was opened to groups from government agencies, and among them were the police and the Anti-Drugs Agency. 

A total of 339 groups took part in the auditions held throughout the country between last November and January this year. – Bernama
