PETALING JAYA: A brotherly hand gave 16-year-old Tan Tee How the winning touch, when he was judged the victor in the Category “A” of the Creative Media Award competition.
He was jubilant when the results were announced on Saturday night, after the judges sieved through over 500 entries in the category, in which participants had to draw scenes from the Disney/Pixar animated movie Cars while adhering to the theme, While I Was Driving...
“I’m happy that I managed to clinch the First Prize this year, as last year I only managed to get a consolation prize,” said Tee How of SMJK Berapit in Penang.
The top prize last year went to his brother Tee Yeong.
Tee How said he owed his success to his brother, who had given him tips on how to produce a masterpiece.
There were 50 entries in the competition’s Category “B”, in which participants were required to mail in their designs of a perfect partner for Cars’ main character, Lightning McQueen.
The Cars trailer inspired 33-year-old John Teoh, a lecturer of a design college in Kuala Lumpur, who was judged winner in the category.
“I watched the trailer and found the characters so cute that I decided to come up with an equally cute design,” said Teoh.
Tee How and Teoh each won a trip to Hong Kong, certificates of excellence, Epson photo printers, Creative Media Award trophies as well as limited edition Cars premiums.
In addition, Tee How won a RM50,000 scholarship from The One Academy and an Epson photo scanner for his school.
Teoh also received an Epson photo scanner, which he gets to keep for himself.
