Hishammuddin’s daughter glad results suspense is over

KUALA LUMPUR: Like half a million other 12-year-olds, Kyra Arianna Hishammuddin is relieved that the UPSR results are out and she can now enjoy the rest of the year-end holidays. 

Her father Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein says the family will have a celebration dinner because of her success in obtaining 3As and 2Bs.  

Although she was a little disappointed that she did not get an A for Science, one of her favourite subjects, Kyra Arianna is glad the anxiety of waiting for the results is over. 

“It’s a relief to finally know our grades. The suspense of waiting was quite stressful,” she said after collecting her results yesterday morning with her schoolmates at SK Seri Bintang Utara.

“I am not disappointed with my results because this is not the end of the road, I have much to look forward to. Besides, scoring three As is not bad,” she added. 

Hishammuddin told The Star he was very happy with his daughter’s results. 

“As a father, I am very proud of my daughter. I have always told my children that the effort they put in is more important than the grades they get. 

“It doesn’t make a difference that I am the Education Minister; all I want is for them to do their best,” he said. 

He added that before any of his four children sat for an examination, he and his wife Datin Seri Tengku Marsilla Tengku Abdullah would talk to them and reassure them, “to make sure they were calm and confident.” 

Kyra Arianna said she drew up a study timetable and revised her subjects every night.  

Her class teacher Haslimah Paimin, who had expected her pupil to get all As, described her as someone “who always tries to do her best.” 

“She has an inquisitive mind and asks many questions in class. Her trial results were very encouraging,” she added. 

About 30% or 52 pupils at SK Seri Bintang Utara scored straight As.  

Headmistress Junaidah Tamby Hashim expressed happiness at her pupils’ achievements.  

“It’s great to see so many pupils scoring As. The school has maintained the standards from last year,” she said.
