Examination dates ‘unavoidable’

KUANTAN: The Education Ministry considers all aspects before setting the dates for examinations like the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) to ensure that they do not clash with major festivals. 

However, director-general Tan Sri Abdul Rafie Mahat said that scheduling the SPM and STPM exams during Ramadan was sometimes unavoidable because the Muslim calendar was always 11 days ahead of the Gregorian calendar.
