KUALA LUMPUR: Seremban lass Rina Azhar beat nine other contestants to emerge winner in the 2004 edition of Bintang RTM, one of the oldest talent contests in the country.
Rina, 23, from Nilai, Negri Sembilan, picked up RM11,000 and jewellery worth RM10,000 after winning the hearts of judges with the powerful Di Antara Kita and Kali Pertama.
The first runner-up, Fazilawati Jamal, also a 23-year-old from Negri Sembilan, won RM7,000 and jewellery worth RM6,000, with her performance of Tidakkah Kau Tahu and I’m So Excited.

Shahizal Arshad, the second runner-up, performed Sangkar Emas and Bahasa Cinta, and took home RM5,000 and jewellery worth RM4,000.
The three received their prizes, which included a trophy and a certificate, from Information Minister Datuk Paduka Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir, who was guest of honour at the finals held at Auditorium Perdana in Angkasapuri here last night.
Sabahan Mercellus Gatisi, 24, bagged the Most Popular award, which won him RM3,000 and a RM5,100 home theatre set.
Six other finalists – Fayzal Ayub, Izwan Pillus, Andy Baru, Muhaizam Ahmad, Marliyana Omar, Emil Hamlyn and Marcello Gatisi – won RM1,000, a certificate and a mobile phone each.
Over 3,000 Malaysians between the ages of 18 and 25 auditioned for the show.
The original Bintang RTM conducted its first finals in 1974 and went on annually until 1986. The following year, RTM reformatted the show under different names. Bintang RTM was revived in 1999.
Over the years, it had uncovered such talents like the late Sudirman Haji Arshad, Jamal Abdillah, Ramlah Ram, Siti Nurhaliza, Siti Sarah Raisuddin and Misha Omar.
