Mohd Sedek:‘It is an honourand I will do my best ’ |
KUALA LUMPUR: Internal Security and Public Order director Comm Datuk Mohd Sedek Mohd Ali has been appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
This was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in Putrajaya yesterday.
The 55-year-old officer takes over from Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Omar, who was appointed Inspector-General of Police in November.
Contacted here, Mohd Sedek thanked the Prime Minister for the confidence in appointing him.
“It is an honour and I will do my best,” he said, adding that he needed the support of the public to carry out his new duties.
He said he would support and work closely with Mohd Bakri.
Born in Alor Gajah, Malacca, Mohd Sedek joined the force as a cadet assistant superintendent in 1973 and rose up the ranks.
Mohd Sedek, who has a Masters in Management as well as a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a Diploma in Education, became the youngest Asst Commissioner of Police in the force at the time when he was 37 years old.
