Singapore faces ‘new poor’ woes

SINGAPORE, which used to enjoy zero unemployment, has a growing number of “new poor” among professionals who are now jobless and have financial problems, Utusan Malaysia reported on its front-page yesterday. 

Professionals as well as management level employees, executives and technical personnel formed 40% of the total number of Singaporeans who had lost their jobs since late 2001, said the report, supplied by news agency Bernama.
