BERITA Harian front-paged a report that said mandatory jail sentences against husbands who divorced their wives outside of court is permitted in Islam to safeguard the security and harmony of a family.
In quoting Johor mufti Datuk Nooh Gadut and Perlis mufti Datuk Mat Jahaya Husin, the daily reported that they supported the state governments in agreeing that heavier penalties be imposed against such husbands.
