ALL Barisan Nasional component parties should take heed of Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s advice to remain united and place the party above self, said MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting.

Ong said all component parties should take his advice not to sabotage each other’s candidates during elections.

“MCA, as a component party of Barisan, welcomes his warning which we take very seriously,” he said when commenting on Dr Mahathir’s presidential address.

“All members and component parties should bear in mind that any sabotage from within is worse than an enemy from outside.”

Ong said he concurred with Dr Mahathir that those involved in internal sabotaging should quit.

“But in the first place they should be exposed. Once they are exposed, everybody will keep an eye on them. Then, they will not succeed,” he added.

He said that all component parties should also take note of Dr Mahathir’s advice to reject religious extremism and fanaticism.

“PAS has used and politicised religion and it tries to spread distorted religious teachings. This is another important point to note.”

Ong said Malaysia, which has a multi-racial, multi-ethnic and multi-religious composition, needs moderation.

“We shall reject PAS’ strategies and tactics. We will stick to a multi-racial, moderate and pragmatic Malaysia. We have to move forward without extremism and fanaticism,” he added.

Ong said all Malaysians should also take Dr Mahathir’s advice to remain united, uphold their spirit of patriotism and defend the country’s independence and sovereignty.
