Jazz queen Sheila weds long-time friend

KUALA LUMPUR: The akad nikah ceremony between jazz queen Sheila Majid and former Gersang member Acis was a private affair attended by family members and close friends. 

The quiet affair was the wish of both families, particularly Sheila’s mother Datuk Paduka Saadiah Adam. 

“We wanted it to be a small and private affair and we’ve only invited our relatives and close friends we’ve known for so long,” said Sheila, 37.  

The wedding, held at Sheila’s house in Damansara Heights, was solemnised at 11.43am yesterday by Imam Wahid Amiri from Masjid Damansara. 

Sheila’s eldest brother Shahila Majid acted as the wali.

This is Sheila’s second marriage.  

Sheila, whose real name is Shaheila Abdul Majid, was divorced from her album producer Roslan Aziz in 2000 and has two children Wan Nur Khaleda Aziz, 12, and Megat Abdul Majid Aziz, nine.  

Acis, 32, whose full name is Hasridz Murshim Hashim Abdullah, is a sessionist and former Gersang member.  

A Berklee College of Music graduate who obtained his double major in music production, engineering and music synthesis, Acis said he had known Sheila since he was 13. 

Earlier, Acis’ entourage presented Sheila with seven trays of wedding gifts (hantaran) including a dowry of RM80, two rings, a necklace and a RM20,000 duit hantaran while Sheila’s side reciprocated with nine trays. 

“The kids are the happiest as they are the ones who really wanted me to settle down. We are going away for a few days with the children. It will be a family honeymoon for us,” said Sheila.  

According to the couple, they met several years ago but it was not until two years ago did love start to bloom. Acis proposed to Sheila last year. 

Sheila described Acis as “a romantic man who understands me”. 

In response, Acis said: “She was never Sheila Majid, the singer. I just knew she was the woman for me, the type I want to share my life with.” 

They are planning to hold another reception for close friends, as most could not make it for their akad nikah.
