KUALA LUMPUR: Two college students won the top male and female honours respectively at the Malaysia Star Search 2003 finals at the Arena of Stars in Genting Highlands on Saturday.
Ng Hung Shen and Chua Poi Suan, both 22, won over the judges, who included Shanghai Knights leading lady Fann Wong and Singapore Mediacorp’s top lead actor Li Nanxing, to walk away with the top prize of RM6,000 each.
They will represent Malaysia at the grand finals in Singapore on June 29.
The first runners-up, pharmacy undergraduate Eric Ling Hung Leong, 23, and Mass Communications student Tai Chien Yuen, 21, will also appear in the grand finals.
Malaysia Star Search 2003 is organised by Media Corporation Studios (M) Sdn Bhd and TV3.
It is a biennial effort by Singapore’s Mediacorp Chinese Channel 8 to find new talent.
A total of 12 finalists were tested on their acting, singing, dancing and hosting skills during the two-hour competition which played out like a variety show extravaganza.
