KUALA LUMPUR: The method to extract specimens for the first diagnostic kit of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) needs to be further standardised for more satisfactory results, said Health Ministry deputy director-general Datuk Dr Ismail Merican.
He said another point to be looked into was that the kit, Artus HPA-Coronavirus RTPCR, also needed to be fine-tuned to test different types of specimens besides the recommended “fresh sputum” specimen.
