PENANG: The proposed land reclamation off Gurney Drive and the creation of several islands to subsidise the cost of constructing the RM1.02bil Penang Outer Ring Project (PORR) is expected to worsen the silt problem at the North Channel which is the main shipping lane of Penang Port.

Penang Port Commission (PPC) general manager Datuk Capt Abdul Rahim Abdul Aziz said silts from other sources were already causing the channel to become shallower.
