Timely Raya aid

A TOTAL of RM71,400 in financial aid was recently presented to the lower-income community at Multimedia University (MMU) to help them prepare for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The contribution was distributed to 128 individuals at the varsity’s Cyberjaya Campus, and 110 others at its Melaka Campus.

The recipients included the varsity’s support workers who commute to Cyberjaya from Sepang, Dengkil and Puchong, as well as staff from B40 families.

Each received RM300 duit raya presented by MMU president Prof Datuk Dr Mazliham Mohd Su’ud.

He said the contribution was aimed at assisting recipients with their Hari Raya preparations.

“We hope this humble gesture will bring them joy and warmth during the celebration,” he said in a press release dated March 28.

The annual Raya aid was made possible through the zakat fund of Yayasan Universiti Multimedia (YUM).

Among the aid recipients were general worker Mohd Nazmi Md Said, 48, and maintenance worker Nur Ain Nazirah, 21.

Expressing gratitude, Mohd Nazmi said he would use the duit raya to purchase clothing and groceries for his family.

“I am thankful for the assistance as it will help with expenses,” he said.

Nur Ain Nazirah said the contribution would make Eid more joyful and fulfilling.

At a breaking-of-fast event in Cyberjaya, Bank Islam (M) Berhad contributed RM10,000 in zakat to the Selangor Islamic Religious Council through YUM, while BAKIT-TM extended RM121,079 in financial assistance to 36 students from B40 families to help with their tuition fees.

Prof Mazliham also presented the Ibnu Haitham Scholarship to nine students, and the Al-Jawhar Scholarship to seven others.
