THE Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) Kuala Lumpur campus is now one of the venues selected by the Malaysia Volleyball Association (Mava) for centralised training programmes to prepare for major tournaments.
Additionally, the varsity’s volleyball student athletes will be included in the selection process for the Malaysian national team under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on March 6 between TAR UMT and Mava to help develop and elevate volleyball standards in Malaysia.
Currently, 12 TAR UMT student athletes have been shortlisted for the South-East Asian (SEA) Games 2025 national volleyball squad.
The MoU was signed by TAR UMT president Prof Datuk Dr Lee Sze Wei and Mava president Hean Boon Yeow.
“We are honoured to open our doors to Mava.
“Through this collaboration, we are not only supporting the association’s pursuit of greatness on and off the court, but also reinforcing TAR UMT’s role as a hub of innovation, training and opportunity,” said Prof Lee.
He added that just as the varsity strives to cultivate leaders and changemakers, Mava has dedicated itself to elevating volleyball as a sport of discipline, teamwork and national pride.
“Together, we aim to create a synergy that will benefit our students, our athletes and the community,” he said.
Hean said Mava was grateful for TAR UMT’s unwavering commitment and support in growing the sport.
“As gracious hosts to Mava’s activities like coaching and refereeing courses, as well as numerous volleyball tournaments like last year’s 22nd Concorde Asia-Milo Malaysia Youth U16 Volleyball National Championship, TAR UMT has earned compliments from my team and the parents of players for its top-notch volleyball courts and facilities.
“We will do our best, and with the support from TAR UMT, we aim to take the sport to new heights and perhaps produce national-level players in the near future,” he said.
