Research nod for UTAR doctorate student


Doctorate student Chan Yu Bin (pic) from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) is the proud recipient of the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM) Research Prize in Polymer and Materials Science 2024.

Awarded by IKM on Dec 6, the honour, which includes a cash prize of RM1,000, was sponsored by HARPS Global and Synthomer Sdn Bhd.

The Research Prize celebrates the top PhD researchers in Malaysia who have demonstrated excellence, innovation, and a commitment to advancing scientific knowledge in polymer and materials science.

Expressing his gratitude, Chan said a determination to push boundaries, particularly in addressing real-world environmental challenges, helped his work stand out.

“IKM’s recognition is a profound honour that affirms the importance of not only scientific discovery but also its application and societal impact,” he said in a press release.Crediting UTAR for playing an important role in his success, the Faculty of Science student said the varsity’s emphasis on research excellence and its support in providing advanced laboratory facilities, expert guidance, and interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities were critical in shaping his research.

Paying homage to his supervisors and mentors, Chan said their encouragement and insights enabled him to explore innovative solutions and maintain high scientific standards.

“UTAR’s culture of nurturing curiosity and resilience prepared me to tackle the challenges in my area of research, from complex problem-solving to applying theory in impactful, practical ways.

“The support has empowered students like me to not only excel in our research but also to contribute meaningfully to science and society,” he said.
