SMK Methodist (ACS) Ipoh, Perak, is in need of funds to upgrade its library, and Devan Gunaseelan is calling on his fellow alumni to help.

Along with Insp Anandha Krishnan Balakrishnan, Surentran Somasundram, Mohd Solehhin Firdaus and Mahathevan Yellamalai, who all graduated from ACS in 2004, Devan returned to their alma mater for the first time in 20 years to present a donation on Sept 2.

“This visit is more than just a trip down memory lane. It’s an opportunity for us to give back to our beloved school,” said Devan.

He explained that the contribution came from a class reunion held at a hotel in Ipoh on July 6.

“The gathering was a resounding success, with 54 former students in attendance.

“It was decided that the remaining funds from organising the reunion, totalling RM2,100, would be channelled to help ACS students from low-income families,” he said, adding that these students face challenges such as coming to school without money for food or being unable to pay Parent-Teacher Association fees.

He said the school, however, is still in need of funds to upgrade its library, which is estimated to cost RM10,000.

“I hope the 2004 cohort can inspire others to come forward and support the students and the school,” he said in a press release.

Thanking the alumni for their generous gesture, ACS principal Chan See Tian said the meaningful contribution highlights the strong bond between the alumni and their alma mater and serves as a reminder of the positive impact that former students can have on their school community.
