TAR UMT alumna is ACCA global council member

Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) alumna Lim Fen Nee (pic) has been elected to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) global council.

Lim, who currently serves as an independent non-executive director in various corporate entities, is the ACCA Malaysia Women’s Network chair and is on the ACCA Malaysia Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Task Force.

Advising aspiring accountants to have an open mind, she emphasised embracing changes as part and parcel of career development.

Prioritisation and focusing on delivery outcomes are also significant traits, she said.

“One cannot be too complacent and it is crucial to always evaluate ourselves to ensure we are on the right track.

“Truth and honesty are of utmost importance – more so as accountants, we must uphold integrity at all times.

“A positive mindset, along with pertinent traits and diligence, is crucial to achieving one’s career goals,” she shared.

Lim completed her Diploma in Commerce (Financial Accounting) at TAR UMT (then TAR College), which ran parallel with her ACCA qualification, before pursuing her Masters of Business Administration in E-Commerce from Charles Sturt University, Australia.

“I am glad to have pursued my education at TAR College as a progression route to obtain my ACCA professional qualification.

“And I am very proud and happy that my alma mater is now a university, a well-deserved recognition to its quality tertiary education which has given so many of us a chance for a bright future.

“More so, I greatly appreciate the lecturers at TAR UMT for their continued dedication and commitment to empowering the younger generation with good tertiary education that will also serve them well in their future,” she said in a press release dated Dec 1.

Commencing her career as an auditor in Ernst & Young, Lim worked her way up, notching up many achievements through hard work and discipline.

Formerly, Lim was a regional partner with Deloitte Southeast Asia and prior to this, she was Securities Commission Malaysia Audit Oversight Board head and project adviser on the commission’s capital market initiatives and international and Asean audit oversight activities.

On a global level, Lim also had postings in the United States and held consulting roles at the World Bank.
