Improving English through CEFR

STUDENTS interested in taking the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) English exams can now do so via Anglia English Malaysia.

Anglia English Malaysia recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Learning Kingdom Education to provide the CEFR English exams throughout Penang.

The certificates, it said in a press release, are awarded by Anglia Examinations, England.

CEFR is the international standard for describing language ability on a six-point scale, from A1 for beginners up to C2 for those who have mastered a language.

“Whilst The Learning Kingdom Education covers Penang, Anglia Malaysia is offering this certification programme throughout the country.

“This is our contribution to support the Education Ministry’s plans to roll out the CEFR English enhancement initiative,” said Anglia Examinations Malaysian Country Manager Richard Lim.

The partnership, The Learning Kingdom Education chief executive officer Lee Eng Wah said, allows them to provide students with world-class proficiency lessons in the English language.

“Globally recognised English certificates from Anglia Examinations, England, will be an added advantage to students, especially as they graduate from our network of schools as we prepare them for their CEFR learning journey,” he added.

Commenting on the benefits of the CEFR, primary school English language teacher Nursyazwani Hamdan believes that CEFR standards have made a positive impact on her pupils’ overall improvement in the language.

Nursyazwani is currently preparing for her CEFR C2 exam.

“As I go through the course, I find it challenging but in a good way. My knowledge and confidence has increased dramatically.”
