Using notebooks to the last page

THE school year has started and it is time again for parents to purchase the necessary educational books and aids.

I spent some time going through my children’s past year school notebooks and activity books.

To my horror, I found that many pages of activity books of various subjects were not completed. I understand and noted that teachers don’t make it necessary for students to finish many of these activity books. Some are not even marked.

Do these activity books need to be on the mandatory book list issued by schools?

If the teachers are not serious in seeking students to complete these activity books or get them to be marked, please do not compel them to purchase these activity books as they only waste precious funds. This is especially true for those from the lower income groups.

I also noted that the notebooks have many pages that are not used. Some of them have more than 50% of unused pages. It has been a practice that when a new school year starts, only new notebooks are used. Those notebooks with unused pages are not used.

In my home alone, there are 50 odd notebooks. They can be put to good use by allowing students to use them until all the pages have been fully utilised.

In this way, the whole family can save many books from being discarded.
