AS I entered my third year of secondary school, I met a teacher who changed my life.
I heard her before I actually saw her. The sound of her high heel shoes was enough to silence our noisy class.
Puan Ong Kim Hong’s sudden appearance at the door stunned us even further. After all, wasn’t she the school’s discipline teacher?
All of us were initially terrified of her but soon after she started teaching our class, I realised there was another side to her – she is a dedicated teacher who wants us to succeed and attain our goals.
Puan Ong is a fashion icon too. She never fails to impress me with her #OOTD (outfit of the day). She makes walking on those four-inch heels look like an absolute piece of cake!
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but for Puan Ong, it is the ruler that is her most prized possession.
With her trusty sidekick in hand, she is often seen “patrolling” the school’s hallways and corridors, keeping the bad guys and gals in check.
One of the qualities I admire is her dedication.
Proverbs, metaphors and classical texts are unfamiliar territory to me, but Puan Ong has that ability to make them easy to understand.
It was hard for me to grasp them before, but it doesn’t seem a daunting task anymore. Under her wing, I’m more than willing to accept the challenge of learning Chinese.
Lessons with Puan Ong go beyond the syllabus. She incorporates jokes and stories injecting them with valuable life lessons that I will always remember and cherish.
