UNIVERSITI Malaya (UM) is proud to present The Real Jane Austen: A Life in Small Things, a special lecture on the life of Jane Austen by Dr Paula Byrne, an eminent biographer, on Dec 11 at 1030 am.
The talk explores what Jane Austen was really like by focusing upon the forces that shaped the interior life of one of the world’s most beloved novelists.
Dr Byrne is the author of best-selling biographies of Jane Austen and Evelyn Waugh, as well as the book of the recent acclaimed movie Belle. She is a Fellow of Harris Manchester College at Oxford University.

In conjunction with the special lecture, a Jane Austen Arts Festival, organised by UM’s Faculty of Languages and Linguistics will be held from Dec 8 to 11.
The festival will feature a poster exhibition; screenings of film adaptaions of Northanger Abbey, Emma, Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion; a stage performance of a dystopian version of Pride and Prejudice; and a colloquium.

TAR UC open day
TUNKU Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) is having an Open Day at all its campuses in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Perak, Johor, Pahang and Sabah from 930am to 5pm from Dec 12 to 14.

Develop or enhance a love for science by checking out Petrosains, The Discovery Centre’s wide range of activities for this school break.
Children and their families can explore the “Face Your Fears!”, thematic programme that runs until Jan 4.
The programme showcases the science behind fear and paranoia as well as how we react to fear. All in a safe and fun environment.
There will be hot-spots located throughout Petrosains called ”Space”, “Sparkz”, “Exploration”, “Platform” and “Refinery” with activities related to fear. Petrosains is also organising a promotional campaign tie-up with the Warner Brothers’ movie: “The Hobbit – The Battle of The Five Armies”.
In the interest of road safety education and awareness, the Petronas StreetSmart exhibition will be held until the end of May.
The exhibition is to educate the public, especially school children, through interactive exhibits and activities that simulate real-life situations on the road.
