LADY luck was certainly smiling on Fong Tze Junn, 18, as he beat about 170 contestants to emerge champion at the 4th Taylor’s Business School’s Inter-School Accounting Quiz competition.
The Form Five student from SMJK Katholik PJ walked away with a Taylor’s Business School (TBS) scholarship worth RM71,860 and RM600 in cash, a trophy and a certificate.
“I worked hard and did many past year examination papers to prepare for this competition. My school teachers also provided me with ample guidance and support and that helped me to answer all the questions in the quiz” said Tze Junn.
A total of 2,220 Form Five students from 34 secondary schools in the Klang Valley took part in the preliminary rounds for the chance to enter the finals, where the ultimate goal was to win RM186, 836 worth of scholarships and RM2, 000 cash prizes.
During the finals, the 170 finalists were given 60 minutes to complete 40 multiple choice accounting questions.
The second-prize winner was See Yi Koon from SMK USJ 12, who received a TBS scholarship worth RM35, 930 and RM500 cash, a trophy and certificate.
The third prize winner was Aw Tsung Wai from SMK USJ 12, who received a TBS scholarship worth RM35, 930, RM400 cash, a trophy and certificate.
In the schools category, SMK USJ 12 achieved the best total marks and walked away with RM2, 000 cash and a trophy.
According to teacher adviser Hafdzah Abdul Hamid, the students were given extra accounting lessons prior to the quiz.
The first runner-up for the school’s category was SMJK Katholik which received RM1, 500 cash, while second runner-up, SMK USJ 13 received RM1, 000 cash.
