Teh bomoh would not stop staring at the window while he burnt the kemenyan (benzoin). He uttered a few Quranic verses under his breath and intermittently blew towards the window. A pregnant silence hung over the room. Suddenly, he stopped his mutterings and shot a question at the woman in front of him, “I see a spirit by the window. Would you like me to cast it into your friend?”  

A scene from the latest local horror movie? Hardly. This is part of daily life for National Geographic Channel’s supervising producer Mok Choy Lin.
