Nurturing young IT entrepreneurs


WHEN HSBC Bank Malaysia Bhd (HSBC) introduced its Young IT Entrepreneur Awards (YITEA) in Malaysia three years ago, the country had just started its ambitious Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) initiative and the focus was on developing a knowledge economy and a workforce conversant in IT. 

“YITEA was first introduced in Hong Kong in 2000. However, as Malaysia had just set up the MSC and was moving towards a k-economy, we thought it appropriate to launch it in Malaysia a year later,” says Elizabeth Wee, HSBC’s Public Affairs head.
