IN response to the letter by M.L. Chong (“Problems in making LAN application”, StarEducation Oct 12), the National Accreditation Board (LAN) would like to point out that the Education Act 1996 regulates all private educational institutions, while the Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996 (PHEIs Act 1996) regulates the establishment and operations of private educational institutions conducting higher education, through the Education Ministry's Private Education Department.
The PHEIs Act 1996 stipulates that “prior approval of the Minister shall be obtained before a private higher educational institution may conduct a course of study ?”
