Two sworn-in as Malacca councillors

MALACCA: Two state assemblymen from MCA have been given key portfolios shortly after a swearing-in ceremony before Malacca Governor Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron announced that Klebang state assemblyman Lim Ban Hong, the youngest member in the state Exco line-up of 10, has been appointed Transport and Project Rehabilitation committee chairman.

Machap state assemblyman Datuk Lai Meng Chong is now the chairman of the Unity and Consumers Affairs committee.

“The state government has realised its objective to serve all communities in the state with the appointment of the two MCA assemblymen.

“No single community should be left behind in our effort to develop the state,” said Idris after chairing the weekly state Exco meeting recently.

Lim, 37, and Lai, 62, earlier took their oaths at the Governor’s office in Ayer Keroh here which was also witnessed by Idris, State Assembly Speaker Datuk Othman Muhamad and senior state government officials.

Lim pledged to carry out the responsibilities entrusted to him by the leadership.

”I will serve the people regardless of race and find the best solutions to resolve whatever problems faced by the rakyat,” he said.

Lai said he will use his position to serve the people efficiently and further strengthen Barisan Nasional’s position in the state.
