HOT steaming tom yam and spicy green curry chicken are just some of the Thai food that Malaysians enjoy.
To cater to the increasing number of Thai food fans in Malaysia, Giant has teamed up with the Royal Thai Embassy to hold a three-week special food fair until May 18.
The Thai Food Authentic Thai Taste Fair, currently held at all Giant hypermarkets in Peninsular Malaysia, showcases more than 200 Thai products and authentic Thai food ingredients from 30 participating suppliers.
The fair was launched by Thai Ambassador to Malaysia Krit Kraichitti and GCH-Retail (M) Sdn Bhd marketing general manager Norine Erica Majaman at Giant USJ 1, Subang Jaya, recently.
In her speech, Norine said Malaysian consumers were already familiar with and loved Thai food, and this was evident from the huge demand for these products in Malaysia.
The fair also aims to raise awareness on the true tastes of Thailand.
“The fair will give our customers an exciting journey into the authentic taste of Thailand and show them how easily Thai food can be prepared at home,” she said.
Kraichitti said he was glad that real Thai flavours were being introduced to Malaysians.
“There are about 3,000 shops in Malaysia offering the tom yam and I find the taste is not the same as in Thailand.
“It’s good that Malaysians can now learn easy ways to make authentic Thai food at home,” he said.
He added that food was an important element to boost Malaysian-Thai relations.
“Through this fair, Malaysians will get to know Thailand better,” he said.
He also announced that there were about 2.9 million visitors from Malaysia to Thailand last year while 1.5 million Thai nationals visited Malaysia.
During the launch, Sea Cuisine Sdn Bhd chef Sonthaya Kundet presented authentic Thai flavours through a live cooking demonstration, using ingredients specially prepared by well-known food production company Tae-Pee Group Sdn Bhd.
In conjunction with the promotion, Giant is holding a Thai Food Authentic Thai Taste Fair contest.
Return air tickets for two to Koh Samui are up for grabs in the contest that runs until June 1 at all Giant hypermarkets.
Participants also stand to win many other fantastic prizes by spending a minimum of RM20 on Thai food products in a single receipt.
