LIMA, June 17 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 people were killed and 19 others injured after an intercity bus crashed Tuesday night in central Peru, local media reported Wednesday.
State news agency Andina said the bus, operated by transport company Real Chancas, crashed at around 11:30 p.m. local time on the Central Highway in the Huanuco region.
The bus was traveling from the city of Pucallpa in eastern Peru to the capital, Lima.
According to the newspaper El Comercio, the driver may have fallen asleep and lost control of the vehicle on a curve, causing it to crash into a house.
Preliminary reports said residents, firefighters and police responded to the scene and transported the injured to the hospital for treatment.
