'Cukuplah' to hit airwaves

This Chinese New Year will be extra special to local songbird Winnie K as she will be launching her latest Bahasa Malaysia single on the local airwaves.

THIS Chinese New Year will be extra special for local songstress Winnie K as she will be releasing her new single on the local airwaves.

The new Bahasa Malaysia song titled Cukuplah was produced by DJ Fuzz, featuring local rapper RJ, said the Pahang-born recording artiste.

“Bahasa Malaysia is a beautiful language and I am privileged to be able to sing songs in different languages,” said Winnie, whose previous commercially released Bahasa Malaysia album titled Kau Ada Di Mana was a hit both locally and in Indonesia.

“It is actually a song expressing how one has had enough of a situation and wants to move on. The chorus has a catchy tune where everyone can sing along to,” said Winnie, who came dressed in a bright coloured cheongsam for the interview.

Winnie hopes her fans will enjoy the new single, saying the song was her first Bahasa Malaysia title after two years.

The 33-year-old star, who has been working hard over the years to keep her fans entertained, described her journey as an artiste as tiring but special in every way.

“There are days I wake up thinking why would anyone want to listen to my music,” she said, adding that she was thankful to be given the opportunity to venture into the Indonesian market.

Despite stiff competition within the fraternity and having to prove her ability to stay relevant in the market, Winnie said she could not believe how much her Indonesian fans loved her songs.

“They will leave messages on Facebook asking me when I would return to Indonesia to perform and do roadshows,” said the radiant Winnie, who has recorded more than 10 Chinese albums and compilations.

The former 1993 Asia Bagus talent show champion said she had no plans for another full-fledged Malay album as she was working on several Mandarin songs.

Besides performing, Winnie has also appeared in television commercials and done several cameo appearance in movies.

“Music is still my favourite platform and I have no plans to take up lead roles in movies, but maybe in future,” said Winnie.

It will be work as usual this Chinese New Year as Winnie will be appearing on a women’s talk show before celebrating with her loved ones in Kuala Lumpur.
