Dazzling show awaits walkers

FOUR international artistes including one from Australia will be performing at the Penang Starwalk variety show after the walk.

They are Australian Felix Streak, 27, Taiwanese Max Koo, 31, and two from the Philippines, Wesmon Daaca Arreza, 34, and Michelle Kristal Ayalde, 27.

Streak, who is part of the dynamic five-piece international act Pure Energy, is likely to belt out ‘Treasure’ by American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars.

Arreza will perform ‘Give Me Everything (Tonight)’ by American R&B recording artiste Ne-Yo while his countryman Ayalde will sing Rihanna’s hit song ‘Umbrella’ with a surprise twist that will only be revealed during the show.

Our very own Sharifah Nur Ashira Syed Abdul Aziz or Shira, 28, Hong Kong-based Bryan Bee, 36, and Sarawakian Wayne Chang, 24, will take to the stage with popular English, Chinese and Malay songs.

Shira has been in the music industry for more than 10 years and has released two albums entitled ‘Shira’ (1999) and ‘Ashira Jatuh Cinta Dan Hati’ (2005).

She is famed for her first single ‘Di Ombak Resah’.

Besides the singing acts, there will also be dance performances by Let’s Dance Studio who will be involved in the Starwalk variety show for the sixth consecutive year.

Let’s Dance Studio dancer and teacher Julia Tham, 23, said their performances included an African dance by their four-member dance group D’Starz.

“For the first time, we will also be incorporating 15 dancers, aged between 17 to 30, to perform various hip hop, Bollywood, belly dance, K-pop and street jazz routines,” she said.

Also, look out for an energetic breakdancing act by 12-member crew Floor Flava.

A beatboxing show by 18-year-old college student Alvin Ooi promises to be another crowd-pleaser.

Penang Starwalk host Adrian Yeoh, who will be hosting the variety show for the second time, said it was good to be back at the event which he described as fun and exciting.

Penang Starwalk 2013, which is into its 36th year, is jointly organised by The Star and the Penang Amateur Athletic Association.

Divided into 10km competition and 7km non-competition categories, it will be flagged off at Birch House in Penang Times Square from 6.30am on Sunday.
