The affable Datuk Yong Khoon Seng is SUPP’s best chance of retaining Stampin. The semi-urban constituency, with exactly 84,820 registered voters, is one of the largest nationally, and with a mixed racial profile.
Some weeks ago, Yong apparently told aspiring SUPP Youth politicians that they had to brush up their Bahasa Malaysia if they wanted to serve as effective MPs. Unlike in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly where English is the lingua franca, a good command of Bahasa Malaysia is necessary in the Parliament.
