NATURAL, social and financial forces all play a part in why many women stay clear of a career in the applied sciences, but noted Canadian scientist Prof Dr Sonia Aissa has an additional reason — mathematics.
In a public lecture entitled Reaching for the Stars: Experiences and Challenges for Women in Science in Penang, Dr Aissa said girls were generally not encouraged to go in depth into mathematics which was a cornerstone of science and technology.
