Report lodged against middlemen collecting money for bazaar lots

In cahoots?: One of the traders in Jalan Tun Sambanthan sent this letter by hand to DBKL last year appealing for their attention. To his shock, one of the middlemen threw back the same letter at him the next day.

Traders along Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Brickfields, have lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commis-sion (MACC) to investigate alleged misconduct in Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) issuance of temporary business licences for the month-long Deepavali bazaar.

The traders, whose identities are kept confidential for security reasons, said two middlemen had been going around the area collecting between RM2,000 and RM6,000 from the traders for every lot at the Deepavali bazaar since the completion of the Little India project about two years ago.
