THE Ramadan Fair being held at the Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC) in Kuala Lumpur until Aug 18 heralds the arrival of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
With a lighted backdrop of traditional Malay houses from the various states, the decor exudes an atmosphere of a homely village.
Themed “Timeless Aidilfitri Treasures”, the fair serves as a one-stop shopping centre for Hari Raya must-haves such as clothes, festive cookies, accessories and gift sets.
Those looking to redecorate their homes can browse through the selection of carpets at the Persian Collections booth or the collection of Islamic-themed canvas paintings and decorations at the Galleria Al-Atiyah booth.
For those looking for new clothes, there is a variety of songket material, head scarves, and clothes from outlets such as Fatimah Songket, Damai Prestij, Square Room and Dodo Art.
The Shairose booth features unique hand-embroidered dresses, baju kurung and modern Punjabi suits which are one-of-a-kind as there is only one piece of each design.
For the young ones, the Boya booth features colourful children’s clothes that have more mature designs for fashion-conscious children.
“Many children now want fashionable clothes,so my mum and I have sourced for materials from Malaysia, China and India and made clothes with designs you will find in adult clothes,” said owner Adilah Ahamd Khairudin.
Most of the booths also sell a selection of Hari Raya cookies while Jason’s Food Hall and Marquise Patisserie have prepared a selection of festive cookies, sweets and corporate hampers.
BSC advertising and promotions manager Elaine Leong said the shopping centre was also aiming to provide an educational platform with supplementary information panels around the mall explaining the significance of Ramadan and the meaning behind Hari Raya traditions.
“As a community-based shopping centre with a multi-racial crowd, we wanted to do our part to promote harmony and unity via the dissemination of these information,” she said.
The Ramadan fair is open daily from 10am to 9pm with a special gamelan performance at 2pm.
