Aidifitri musical showcases

Sing and dance to the melodic tunes of Muzikal Aidilfitri this Raya and experience the musical sensations like never before at Sungei Wang Plaza, Kuala Lumpur. “Menuju Puncak Muzikal” will be staged on Aug 4, 5, 9 and 10 at 8.30pm, while “Esok Hari Raya Muzikal” will be staged on Aug 16, 17, 24, 25 and 26 also at 8.30pm at its Concourse Level. These showcases are performed by Pak Ngah’s Swatari Dance Troupe and each is based on a storyline that carries a mixture of mystical, humour and Raya elements. Floral-themed exhibItion

Aidea Art is hosting an art exhibition Floras for this month. It features a collection of oil paintings by artist Loo Foh Sang. Ramadan festival

The National Department for Culture and Arts is organising the Ramadan Festival 2012 every weekend until Aug 11 from 3pm to 8.30pm in front of Panggung Bandaraya, Jalan Raja, Kuala Lumpur. Activities include sermons, nasyid and marhaban competitions, and breaking of fast sessions. Craft promotion

Kraftangan Malaysia is having an Aidilfitri Craft Promotion 2012 from Aug 1 to 12, from 10am to 10pm, at Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex, Jalan Conlay. Events include an Aidilfitri fashion exhibition, interior decoration craft demonstration, Aidifiltri cooking and craft sale by 200 entrepreneurs. Celebrating culture and heritage

Raya comes alive at 1Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya, in an explosion of colour, cultural performances and activities taking place until Aug 26. Be sure to catch “Putera Sulong & Putera Bongsu”, a dance musical depicting the story of two royal princes who vie for the affections of the same fairy princess. Other Raya dance lineups include “Warisan Emas”, “Salam Gembira Raya”, “Jangkauan Lebaran” and “Nostalgic Comedy”, as well as performances of popular tunes by vocal group Putera. Wood carving exhibition

A solo exhibition on Zhang Yuedong’s Wood Carvings and Black Ink Paintings will be held from today to Aug 19 at SGM Exhibition Hall, 7th Floor, Wisma Kebudayaan SGM, 243 Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. Zhang’s wood carving works display attributes of the Chinese ethnicity, totems and pictographic words which showcase the Dongba language. Zhang will conduct an art appreciation session on his wood carvings at 2pm tomorrow and a guided tour of the exhibition at 2pm on Aug 12. Admission is free. Viewing hours are 11am to 6pm daily. Going traditional

Visitors will get to experience Hari Raya in a traditional kampung way at Suria KLCC, Kuala Lumpur, which takes on the theme “Seindah Seri Aidilfitri” this year. Hari Raya Aidilfitri performances lined up for this weekend are a Malay traditional dance at 1pm and Malay traditional music singing at 4.30pm. Magnificent Raya
