PAMPERING stays and delectable feasts at G Hotel await participants of the Penang Starwalk 2012, as the trendy establishment along Gurney Drive is sponsoring RM10,008 worth of prizes for the lucky draw.
The main highlight are two 3D/2N hotel stay vouchers for their Duplex Suite — luxurious, dual-storey space and sea facing — worth RM3,173 each.
While two lucky Starwalkers can look forward to short getaways at the hotel, others can indulge their palates on a range of exciting flavours specially concocted by their award-winning team of chefs.
There are also 30 vouchers (10 each) for the Business Set Lunch, Set Dinner and Chocolate Buffet at the Sesame + Soy restaurant, along with five Sunday Funday Brunch and seven weekday Themed Dinner Buffet vouchers for the G Cafe.
Hotel general manager Peter Nast said they had been staunch supporters of the walk for the past few years, as it was their belief in promoting a healthy, active lifestyle for the benefit of the local community.
Being one of the biggest events of its kind in Penang, it also represents a great opportunity to give the community a taste of the hotel’s contemporary ambience and gracious hospitality.
“Our guestrooms are imbued with stylish and trendy concepts and it epitomise the lifestyle experience,” he said after handing over the goodies to The Star advertisement sales, account executive Leong Shir Mein yesterday.
“The Chocolate Buffet ranks among our culinary highlights. With a myriad of chocolate delights, chocaholics will find themselves in wonderland. It makes for a rewarding treat after sweating it out at the walk!
“We have also introduced new menus at Sesame + Soy and the G Cafe. From September onwards, there will be a new cycle of themed buffets at the latter,” he added.
Besides sponsoring prizes, the hotel is again sending a team for the walk, with some 20 employees, some with their families, already signed up.
Public relations manager Chris-tina Tan, who will have her husband and kids in tow, said, “we are all eagerly looking forward to a fun-filled day of bonding and camaraderie”.
The Penang Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas will flag off the walk at Birch House, Penang Times Square, at 6.30am on Sept 17, a replacement public holiday for Malaysia Day that falls on Sunday.
The route for non-competition walkers is 6km while it is 10km for competition walkers.
This year’s non-competition route covers several new heritage and historical sites apart from the traditional landmarks such as Fort Cornwallis, St George’s Church, Goddess of Mercy Temple, Kapitan Keling Mosque and Sri Mahamariamman Temple.
The new sites include Sia Boey Market, Tan Kongsi, Chew/Lee Jetties, Wisma Yeap Chor Ee, Customs Building (formerly Malayan Railway Building), Logan Heritage, The Whiteaways Arcade, Pinang Peranakan Mansion and Masjid Mela-yu Lebuh Acheh.
The walk is jointly organised by The Star and Penang Amateur Athletics Association and endorsed by the State Education Department and Penang Municipal Council.
Participants who complete the route within a two-hour time limit will be eligible for a lucky draw which promises attractive prizes.
Registration fee is RM10 for non-competition walkers and RM15 for competition walkers.
