THE ALOR Setar City Council is going down to the ground in a bid to collect assessment payments and arrears, which stand at RM22mil.
The council is setting a mobile counter at five different locations in the city for the public to pay their assessments and arrears that have accumulated for more than 20 years.
The first stop is at Taman Wira Mergong on Lebuhraya Sultanah Bahiyah where the mobile counter will remain open until Saturday.
Mayor Datuk Mat Noh Ahmad said the four other locations were at Taman Bersatu in Kuala Kedah, Taman Nuri on Jalan Datuk Kumbar, Taman Rakyat on Jalan Putra, and Pokok Sena.
He said the counter would open on different dates at the locations starting with Taman Wira Mergong.
“The counter at Taman Wira Mergong will be opened from now until Saturday while the one at Taman Bersatu will open from Sunday until Oct 15 and the counter at Taman Nuri from Oct 16 until Oct 22,” he said when met after visiting the mobile counter at Taman Wira Mergong in Alor Setar yesterday.
He said the two counters at Taman Rakyat and Pokok Sena would open from Oct 23 until Oct 29 and Nov 1 until Nov 5 respectively.
He said the counters would be opened from 9am until 4pm at all locations.
“That is why we are going down to the ground to give the public a better chance to pay their current fees and arrears,” he said.
Mat Noh added that the council would also introduce a payment kiosk at the council office beginning Dec 15 for the public to make payments after office hours.
