Appointment an honour for Belaga people

BINTULU: Belaga assemblyman Liwan Lagang feels that his appointment as an assistant minister is an honour for his constituents, not just him.

“This (his appointment) is in recognition of the loyalty of the people of Belaga to the Barisan Nasional government. Despite the many issues raised recently, the people still believe that Barisan is capable of resolving their problems. They still have trust in the government,” he told The Star after the new Cabinet line-up was announced.

The two-term assemblyman has been appointed Culture and Heritage Assistant Minister under the Social Development Ministry. He is the only Orang Ulu elected representative in the state Cabinet.

Liwan thanked Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and PRS president Tan Sri Dr James Masing for having the trust in him. On his next move, Liwan, who is PRS treasurer general, said he would consult and seek advice from his party president.

“It really hasn’t sunk in yet. Give me a chance and I’ll give a more detailed statement later,” he said.
