KUCHING: The remains of 21 Iban trackers and Sarawak Rangers, who fell during the Emergency, will be reburied at the Heroes Grave next Wednesday.
In an operation dubbed Ops Mai Pulai, the remains will be flown back to Sarawak on Tuesday and handed over by the Armed Forces to Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, representing the state government, at the Air Force base.
Ops Mai Pulai is a joint effort by the Defence Ministry, Veterans Affairs Department and state government to bring back the remains of the trackers from their burial places in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore.
The trackers had served gallantly to defend the country during the communist insurgency and Confrontation.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein are expected to attend the reburial ceremony.
