NU Fest 2027: Stadium Merdeka to become a celebration of music, culture and community

Stadium Merdeka will host the inaugural NU Fest on 30 January 2027, bringing together music, culture, creativity and lifestyle in a festival aimed at Malaysia’s younger generation.

Organised by COMs. Creative Studio in collaboration with AKE Seni, NU Fest is built around the concept “Music, Culture & Community.” Alongside live performances, festival-goers can explore a food village, creative market, carnival activities, brand activations, a Rock Zone and grandstand seating.

“We do not want NU Fest to be seen as just another concert featuring a large number of artists,” said Zairul Addry Helmy, representing COMs. Creative Studio. “We want festival-goers to arrive early, soak up the atmosphere and explore the carnival and creative activities before enjoying the performances on the main stage.”

The Phase 1 line-up features The Changcuters, Dukes, Lokarya, The Beretta’s, Saja and Monosterio, with a special appearance by Band D_Va. The acts span rock, pop, alternative music and nostalgia, bringing together artists with distinct sounds and fan communities.

The Changcuters, now in their 22nd year, will bring their high-energy performance to the festival. Emerging acts Dukes and Lokarya join a bill rounded out by The Beretta’s, Saja and Monosterio. Band D_Va’s special appearance will offer fans a nostalgic trip back to the sounds of the 2000s.

The Phase 2 announcement adds Indonesian band Nidji and Malaysian favourite Masdo. Nidji is scheduled to perform a 90-minute set, while Masdo brings its blend of retro influences and contemporary sounds. Malaysian DJ community Beats & Brew will also add a dynamic element to the festival programme.

NU Fest’s organisers hope to create an experience that extends beyond the main stage, drawing inspiration from international festivals that have become cultural and lifestyle destinations.

“We want a line-up that appeals across different generations and fan communities,” Zairul said. “Each act has its own character, spanning rock, pop and nostalgia to alternative music and contemporary energy.”

The festival also aims to provide a platform for local brands, entrepreneurs, content creators, food operators and young talent. Its organisers hope NU Fest will grow into an annual event with a distinctive identity.

“True success is not simply measured by how many people attend the festival, but by whether they leave already looking forward to the next edition,” Zairul said.

Tickets start from RM88, with special offers available for group bookings. Phase 1 ticket sales will initially offer the Standing category. Seating options, including the Grandstand area, will be announced later.
