Looking for karaoke idol

THE Lions Club of Bayan Baru, Penang, is organising a karaoke competition aimed at raising RM200,000 for people with poor vision.

The Voices of Charity competi-tion which will be held at SJK (C) Wen Khai is expected to pull in over 150 participants for both the New Talents and Open categories.

The New Talents category is open to participants who have never won any previous karaoke competitions while the other category is for experienced contestants.

The first and second rounds will be held on Sept 3 and 4 from 10am to 6pm while the final is scheduled on Sept 8 from 6pm until midnight.

The prizes offered for the top three spots of both categories are cash and trophies as well as a pair of Takasima branded sport shoes each.

Organising chairman Jeffrey Oon said the tickets would be priced at RM30 and RM50 with the proceeds going to the club’s project ‘Sight First for Sight’.

This effort is predominantly aimed at helping visually impaired people.

Oon said that to date, the club had sponsored 95 patients for eye treatments at a total cost of RM40,000.

There are hundreds more patients on the waiting list, he said.

The closing date for the contest is August 15.

The club also welcomes those who are interested to sponsor the event.
