Macabre scenes accompanied by ominous music will flood visitors’ senses at the ‘Tortura 2’ exhibition which is currently ongoing at Muzium Seni Pahang in Kuantan.
Back by popular demand, horrific torture and execution devices with names like the head crusher, knee splitter and the ripping trestle are on display at the exhibition which was first held in Malacca in 2003.
The exhibition’s organiser Sabariah Md Daud said about 150 medieval-era items were brought in from Europe for the show.
“Most of the metal implements are originals from the Middle Ages while the wooden tools are mostly replicas.
“Tortura 2 is aimed at educating the public on human rights now compared to the ancient days. During the medieval era, anyone could be punished for their opinions, race, religion, language, social status and gender in gruesome ways.
“How fortunate we are to live in this day and age where we have the freedom to speak,” she said when met recently.
From the infamous French guillotine to the Iron Maiden of Nuremberg, the devices came with paintings and videos showing how they were used.
Sabaria added that the exhibition was part of her company’s diversification into educational and interactive events.
“We are also in negotiation with the Museum of London to bring Leonardo da Vinci’s inventions for an exhibition,” she said.
Tortura 2 is open daily from 10am to 7pm until May 31. The entrance fee is RM6 for adults and RM3 for children below 12.
A special discount package is given to a group of student numbering 30 and above and accompanied by two adults.
