CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Orang asli families in Ulu Telom settlement here, who will be affec- ted by the construction of the Ulu Jelai hydroelectric dam project, has received compensation from Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).
TNB chairman Tan Sri Leo Moggie said the compensation was fair and based on the va- luation carried out by the Va-luation and Property Services Department of the Finance Mi-nistry.
Moggie, however, did not disclose the amount and the num-ber of orang asli families in-volved.
The families were expected to lose their homes and crops to the dam project.
Moggie said TNB had also identified three orang asli villa-ges near the project site that needed to be relocated to make way for the RM2.15bil project.
He said a total area of 124ha would be submerged once the dam became operational by 2015.
“This dam will be able to generate 372MW of electricity to meet the needs of consumers during peak periods,” Moggie added.
