Community choir

THE Choir of the Philharmonic Society of Selangor, a PJ-based community choir, invites singers of all ages and experience to join their 2011 season. No experience is necessary but ability to read notes would be an advantage. The choir regularly performs at community and corporate events in addition to producing its own shows. Rehearsals are held every Monday from 8pm to 10pm. There will be a new member orientation tonight from 7pm-8pm and on Jan 24. Open day

COLUMBIA Asia Hospital Cheras will be organising an Open Day for the public on Jan 23 from 8.30am to 4pm at its hospital in Jalan Suakasih, Cheras, Selangor. There will be free health screening tests including tests for high blood pressure; Blood sugar test; Body mass index; Bone scan, Hand Grip Assessment. Other activities involve a blood donation drive, colouring contest, health quiz, magic show, face painting and sand art. Goodie bag giveaway (first-come, first-served).

FRIM photo contest

THE Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) is inviting photographers and photo enthusiasts to join its photography competition themed “FRIM Tapak Warisan Semula Jadi”. The photographs must be taken in FRIM Kepong from now until Feb 28. The aim is to enhance public awareness of the importance of FRIM not only as a leading institute contributing to forest conservation in the region but also one of the country’s most treasured natural heritage. KLPAC open day

VISIT Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre’s (KLPAC) open day on Jan 23 from 10am to 5pm. The programme includes Theatre & Dance performances such as Green & White by Nyoba Kan, Jom Dance by Lex Lakshman Balakrishnan, Balinese Dance by Max Roswell, Through the Looking Glass by Balletbase (Bilqis Hijjas and Ng Bee Bee), and Standup Comedy in Chinese by Joker Duo. There will also be indie film screening, drum jamming by Drumclix, Afro Sahara & Drum Simfoni, arts and crafts market, live painting by Marta and treasure hunt (recommended for 12-year-olds and above). Microsoft Excel course

WIM is collaborating with Centrilinc offering Microsoft Excel 200 intermediate course for female participants at Wisma WIM (resource lab on the second floor) on Wednesday.
