Confusion over halal status

THe Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) has issued halal certificates to the kitchen of 22 hotels in Kuala Lumpur but the Malaysia Association of Hotels (MAH) claimed that most of its members have obtained certification from other religious authorities.

“While it is true that Jakim has certified only 22 hotels, the National Islamic Council (MAIN) and the National Islamic Department (JAIN) also issued certification,” said MAH president Datuk Mohd Ilyas Zainol Abidin.
