Penang’s unique crafts

AFTER four decades perfecting his craft, master calligrapher and engraver Ng Chai Tiam is among the best in his trade. He is also one of the remaining few who still practise the old Chinese art.

Showcasing his beautiful strokes at the Craft and Food Corner on Armenian Street during the first anniversary celebrations of George Town’s Unesco World Heritage Site listing, Ng said that there were fewer and fewer people interested in taking up calligraphy nowadays.
