TRADITIONAL Malay dances and musical forms took centre stage at the first Matra Buana Penang Arts & Cultural Festival held at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Penang.

Aimed at preserving cultural heritage for the enjoyment of future generations, the recent two-day event showcased traditional performances indigenous to the northern region and east coast, among them the Dikir Barat, Wayang Kulit, Joghee, Mak Yong and Boria.
